Leopard-printed dresses. Cozy houndstooth sweaters. Voluminous sleeved plaid shirts. Leather moto jackets. These are just a few of the key pieces at the Rebecca Minkoff Fall Winter 2020 presentation on the rooftop of Spring Studios on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.

A Look Inside the Rebecca Minkoff Fall Winter 2020 Presentation

I was planning to skip New York Fashion Week for the first time in a decade but I’m so glad to have gone to this presentation. It was safely organized and each guest had their temperatures checked before getting into the building. Small groups were allowed to see the collection in assigned time slots to keep the space free from crowds. Even though things were definitely much quieter, it was good to see some friends again — if only for a brief moment!

Celebrating 15 Years of Rebecca Minkoff

One of the first things I noticed in the presentation were the embellished, floral, and leopard-printed masks. It’s nice to see designers making the best out of this unexpected time we’re living in. The collection stayed true to Rebecca Minkoff’s aesthetic and mix of femininity with masculinity, East Coast with West Coast, and this time, boho with rock ’n’ roll.

I always find myself going back to music as a jumping off point for my inspiration season after season. For my Fall 2020 collection, I wanted to capture the essence of the Rebecca Minkoff girl who is multifaceted in all aspects of her life.”

This year marks the brand’s 15th anniversary. I remember hearing Rebecca Minkoff’s story on an episode of Jenna Kutcher’s Gold Digger podcast, and how her career launched from making customized bedazzled “I Love New York” t-shirts. After years of hard work, her business has been constantly expanding in categories from handbags, clothing, shoes, kidswear, perfume, and so much more.

In addition, a big focal point during the Rebecca Minkoff Fall Winter 2020 presentation were the nail designs. KISS brand ambassador and nail artist Gina Edwards created cool celestial rocker-themed designs. With silver stars on black nail tabs, it complemented the collection beautifully! Here are her tips on how she got the look:

KISS Nails: A Step-by-Step Guide

1) Start with KISS Halloween Salon Color Nails in Bonfires

2) Select the correct size nail for each finger and set aside in order

3) Cut down using a nail clipper to desired length for short coffin shape

4) Apply nail with glue or adhesive nail tabs

5) Use stars from KISS Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit and apply to create accent nail

6) Apply top coat from Nail Art Starter Kit on all nails

Similarly, you can get the look using stick-on nails. Just the imPRESS Press-On Manicure in Claim to Fame as your base instead!

All in all, it seemed fitting that the Fall/Winter 2020 collection was shown with a backdrop of the New York City skyline during sunset. The past few months have been a hard time in this city—and everywhere else in the world—but there’s still beauty in the current moment.
