Last summer, I played pickleball for the first time with a few friends. It’s been forever since I tried a new sport, and it felt so refreshing to dive into an activity I hadn’t done before.

While we were chatting about getting paddles and a net to play at a nearby court, I wondered, “What do you even wear to play pickleball?” So, I looked up more about the sport, and apparently, it’s pretty easy to learn (so glad!). 

It has some similarities to tennis, but it’s way less intense since the court is smaller and there’s less ground to cover, making it simpler to return shots. Plus, the paddles for pickleball are much lighter than tennis rackets, which is a nice bonus!

After playing pickleball a few times, I can say that it’s a pretty laid-back social sport. The rules are simple, and it feels more like a fun activity than a competitive one.

But if you’re playing for competition, USA Pickleball has a rule that players may be required to change clothes (including braces, compression shoes, shoes, and socks) if you’re wearing colors that are similar to the ball being used. If you’re playing for leisure like me, then you don’t necessarily need to go by this.

When it comes to the best pickleball outfits for women, the most important factor is to choose comfortable pieces made from breathable materials that are suitable for the weather conditions. And chic, of course, so you can feel confident during game time!

Pickleball dresses are a great way to simplify your life. They save time while instantly making you look polished.

Since a dress is a one-piece outfit, you can just throw it on and go without worrying about whether the top matches the bottom.

Pickleball Tops

While there’s no official dress code, having a perfect pickleball outfit can totally change the game. 

Here are a few of my picks for tops that give you freedom of movement on the courts. 

For in-between weather or chillier days on outdoor courts, opt for an athletic sweater vest, light jacket, or long-sleeve tops to keep your body temperature comfortable throughout the match. 

A great option is this Lilly Pulitzer fitted jacket, which has such a tropical print and offers UPF 50+ protection. If you play pickleball outdoors, sun protection is essential, and this long-sleeved top has that built in. 

Complete your look with the matching tank and shorts for a stylish and functional outfit.

Pickleball Skirts & Bottoms

For bottoms to wear on the pickleball court, a great option is tennis skirts or athletic shorts made from lightweight, breathable fabric that have a built-in layer. 

These options are practical for long matches in hot weather and come in a variety of styles.
