Calling all flower-loving New Yorkers — Tulip Day NYC will be back on Sunday, March 30th, 2025!
This will mark the second time that the free event will be taking place in New York City’s Union Square.
There will be 170,000 tulips for the one-day spring celebration, thanks to Royal Anthos, an organization that represents flower and tree agriculture around the world, with support from U.S. tulip growers and the European Union.
Between 11:30AM through 4:00PM EST, you’ll have a chance to pick your own bunch of tulips (a max of 10 per person).
To me, there’s nothing like the excitement of tulips to welcome spring, especially after a long, freezing winter. I remember last year, I was having brunch a few blocks away with my boyfriend Dex at Reyna New York (which I highly recommend!), and through the window, we kept seeing people walking down the street holding their own bouquet of tulips. And every single person with flowers had a big smile on their face. After our meal, we strolled through 14th Street and came across the colorful display of flowers for Tulip Day NYC.
The pretty pops of pink, yellow, orange, purple, and red petals all around the tulip garden are instant mood boosters. Tip: Get there early since it was super crowded last year! It’s one of the most unique experiences that truly brings the city of New York together.
Register for your free tickets (a maximum of three tickets per person) starting on Monday, March 17, 2025 on Tulip Day NYC’s website here, where you can stay up to date on the latest information.

How To Care For Tulips
After taking a bouquet home for the first time, I was surprised by how much the tulips bloomed! The long, narrow shape of the petals opened up so widely over the week.
Here’s how to take care of them, according to Tulip Day NYC’s website:
- You can leave the flower bulb attached to the tulips or cut them off. Personally, I cut them off to make room for them in a vase.
- If you cut the bulbs off, place them in a vase with fresh water with paper or foil for an hour. This helps soak up water to straighten their shape.
- Use a tall vase since the tulips will grow a few centimeters in height.
- Cut off about 1.5 centimeters before placing them back in the vase.
- Keep the tulips away from fruit bowls and direct sunlight.
- Refill the water regularly since tulips drink a lot of water.
- Enjoy your spring flowers! 🌷🌷
