As someone with a summer birthday (well, just a couple days before the official start!), I’ve always been naturally drawn to the warm weather months.

My favorite part of June through September is putting together outfits — think breezy sundresses and matching sets — with the perfect pair of summer shoes to complete the look.

But with how hot it gets in New York City, finding the best summer shoes for women that are both stylish and comfortable isn’t always easy. I’m always looking for breathable, practical pairs that can handle long city walks without sacrificing style.

Low-Heeled Sandals

The good thing is, not all heels are painful — and these Lifestride comfy heels prove it. I’ve already gotten a lot of wear out of them thanks to how versatile they are. And I can’t believe they’re under $50!

When shopping for comfy heels in the summer, choose designs that have a breathable, open design like buttery leather strappy sandals or fisherman sandals that will help air flow through. Light colors like gold, white, and light pink also helps make your feet feel less hot since lighter colors reflect heat. 

Wearing a low heel makes it easier to walk around and is more versatile. These have become my go-to casual shoes and dressy occasion shoes.

Espadrilles

For an elevated look without wearing traditional heels, espadrilles are the way to go. Typically made with a canvas or cotton fabric upper and a woven jute or rope sole, this classic summer shoe is both comfy and stylish.

Originally from Spain, espadrilles are a warm weather staple since they’re lightweight, made with natural materials that keep your feet cool, and can be easily dressed up or down. 

The pair I’m wearing above features shock absorption, pressure distribution, and plush cushioning—honestly, it feels like walking on a cloud.

Mid-Heel Slingbacks

These are my go-to shoes for dressy occasions! Mid-heel slingbacks have an open-back design, making them more breathable — a savior in the warm weather. The back strap also helps give a secure fit and stay in place so I don’t have to worry about them slipping off.

The manageable heel height makes them easy to walk in while still looking polished and timeless.

These INEZ Mia slingbacks are a personal favorite — they feature a proprietary plush insole with arch support and come in three widths: slim, standard, and roomy. I’m usually a size 6.5 standard, but since these run long and have a pointed toe, I went with a size 6 roomy and they fit perfectly.

One of my most-worn summer shoes are white sneakers. I got these Frankie4 Australia white sneakers last year and still wear them on repeat since they’re so versatile. 

White sneakers are a year-round staple, but they really shine in summer. The light, neutral color makes them really easy to style. I’ve paired mine with everything from jeans and a sweater to slip dresses and a cardigan — they go with almost anything.

I wear mine constantly while walking around NYC—they give me the height and polish of a heel without the wobble or foot pain.

Slide-On Flat Platform Sandals

Slip-on shoes are the ultimate in effortless summer footwear. Easy to put on and take off, they’re perfect for hot days when you just want to stay comfortable and get outdoors without overthinking your outfit.

In the photo above, I’m wearing my white FitFlops—the only pair of sandals I packed for a trip to Barcelona, and I wore them constantly.
